2018 Summer Camp Information

It almost that time of year again! Cadets will soon be heading off to summer training. To help prepare, there will be a parent information session for the parents (cadets are also welcome) of any cadets selected for summer camp or who have applied and are still waiting for a position. Copies of camp related documents are attached below. The information session will take place on Tuesday, June 12th at 7:00pm. Please ensure that you have valid ID in order to enter the Paddon building.

Please note, we require that all outstanding summer camp offers be returned by the 12th so that we can confirm your cadet’s attendance on the course they have been selected for.

For the cadets still awaiting selection – we are getting requests on a daily basis for updates, and we kindly ask for your patience. As soon as information is made known to us, we will pass it along to you as quickly as possible. Capt Clay is in daily communication with the NL Cadet Detachment regarding summer camp positions, and every effort is being made to secure as many positions as possible. We have no way to predict when a selection may be made – selections have been known to occur right up to the start date for a course.

Thank you, and please feel free to contact us should you have any questions!

Graduation Parade – May 15

Just a quick reminder that we have our Graduation Parade on May 15. The parade will include award presentations and a small reception afterwards and so it is very important for your cadet to be in attendance. We are also honoured to have Lieutenant Colonel Paul Furlong, the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, the Royal Newfoundland Regiment as our reviewing officer.

The parade is an opportunity for the cadets to proudly show family, friends and their invited guests what they have learned throughout 2017-2018.

Sadly, we will also be saying farewell to Captain Barry Power as our Commanding Officer. While Captain Power is leaving our corps, he will continue to serve the Canadian Forces and our cadets in many new and exciting roles in which he can impart his valuable experience. Captain Power has worked tirelessly as our Commanding Officer and so please join us in saying farewell. Captain Paul Clay is the new Commanding Officer and so there will be a change of command ceremony as part of the parade.

We hope to see you all there.

Range FTX

This upcoming weekend (Apr 13-15) is our final weekend exercise for the year. In partnership with 1 Royal Newfoundland Regiment, we will be at the range in Makinsons where we will be taking part in C7 shooting (cadets silver star and above), .22 shooting (other cadets) and other field training (all cadets). A letter for parents and caregivers can be found below. The exercise promises to be a very exciting weekend and a unique opportunity for all cadets! It is something that very few cadet corps in the province participate in.
